What we do

Are you having problems with a lawyer?

We investigate complaints about lawyers operating in South Australia, about their conduct and behaviour and about the legal costs that they charge.  You should, before making a complaint to the Commissioner, speak to your lawyer first about any concerns you have.  If, after speaking to your lawyer, you still have concerns or, if you consider you cannot speak to your lawyer, then contact the Commissioner.

Not every problem you may have with your lawyer can be investigated by the Commissioner.  If your matter is before a court or tribunal, it may be better to raise your concerns there.

Things we may be able to help with

  • Poor service or communication.
  • Serious delays.
  • Non-disclosure of costs.
  • Issues with billing and legal costs.
  • Rudeness.
  • Threatening or abusive behaviour.
  • Sexual harassment.

If you think the Commissioner can help, please complete the complaint form.  Or, if you are still not sure, you can complete our enquiry form.
