What we don't do

Things we may not be able to help with

Not every concern you may have about a lawyer can or will be investigated by the Commissioner.  If your concerns are that your lawyer has been negligent, you may have recourse through other means.  If you raised your concerns with a court or tribunal and the lawyer's coduct was dealt with, the Commissioner is unlikely to investigate.  The Commissioner will also usually not :

  • Investigate the provision of legal advice.
  • Investigate matters currently before a court or tribunal.
  • Investigate matters which require a court, tribunal or other body to make a decision or finding (ie, that a criminal offence has been committed or a court order breached).
  • Recover unpaid moneys.
  • Look into legal costs for which you are not liable.
